Income & Pay
The Income & Pay section helps you convert between different ways pay is quoted — hourly, daily, monthly, and annual — and understand what a salary offer or rate change is actually worth. The pay-rise calculator shows the cash value of a percentage increase. The overtime calculator works out gross pay for hours above a standard week. All results are gross figures before income tax and deductions.

Common questions
Income & Pay questions.
What is the difference between gross pay and net pay?
Gross pay is your earnings before any deductions — income tax, national insurance, pension contributions, and similar. Net pay (take-home pay) is what actually reaches your bank account after those deductions. The salary and hourly conversion calculators here show gross figures. Use a country-specific salary-after-tax calculator to estimate net pay.
How many working hours are assumed in a salary calculation?
The standard assumption is 40 hours per week and 52 weeks per year, giving 2,080 annual working hours. This includes paid holiday and bank holidays as part of the total year. You can override the weekly hours input if your working pattern differs.
Does a percentage pay rise always improve my hourly rate by the same percentage?
Yes — if your hours stay the same. A 5% salary increase raises your hourly equivalent by the same 5%. The hourly rate only changes disproportionately if your contracted hours also change.
