How the grams-to-teaspoons conversion works
Grams measure weight while teaspoons measure volume. To move from grams to teaspoons you divide the gram weight by the ingredient density in grams per teaspoon. That gives the number of level teaspoons represented by the weight you entered.
This tool uses ingredient-specific density assumptions for common kitchen staples such as sugar, salt, flour, butter, cocoa powder, honey, olive oil, and yeast. You can also enter a custom density if your ingredient is not listed.
Teaspoons = Weight (g) ÷ Density (g/tsp)
Example: 21 g of honey at 7 g/tsp = 3 teaspoons.
Tablespoons = Teaspoons ÷ 3
Provides a quick larger-spoon equivalent for the same result.
Cups = Teaspoons ÷ 48
Useful when a recipe moves from fine spoon measures into cup-scale quantities.
